Mint from a drop

Minting inscribes a new piece for you. Why you cannot choose which one, why your countdown differs from somebody else's, and what to do if it seems stuck.

Minting is not buying from a shelf: the piece is inscribed on the blockchain at that moment, for you. That is why it costs what it costs and why the states are what they are.

Before you start

  • A wallet, unlocked.
  • Enough BSV for the mint price plus the platform's cut. See Fees.
  • The drop has to be open for you — which is not the same as being open.

Your countdown is yours

A drop does not open for everybody at the same second. Each user rank adds its own delay on top of the drop's start time, so people holding rarer pieces reach zero first.

If you see a countdown while somebody else is already minting, nothing is broken: you are looking at your own window. Eventually every rank's delay expires and the drop is open to all.

These are the ranks, with the delay each one adds and the fee discount it carries — the same table the site shows you, read from the platform's own configuration:

Name Delay Discount
EXOTIC +0 minutes -50%
LEGENDARY +5 minutes -40%
EPIC +10 minutes -30%
RARE +15 minutes -20%
UNCOMMON +20 minutes -10%
COMMON +25 minutes -5%
UNRANKED +30 minutes -0%

Once it is open, the bar tells you how much is left:

The panel you mint from

Once your window is open, the drop shows you where the piece will go and one button with the price on it. The badge underneath is the rank you are minting with:

You do not pick the piece

You mint from the collection and the platform hands you the next available piece. Nobody can choose, which is what keeps a drop fair when several people mint at the same instant.

When you start, that piece is reserved for you while your mint is in flight. If it does not complete, the reservation lapses and the piece goes back into the pool.

What happens

  1. A piece is reserved for you.
  2. You sign; the transaction is built and broadcast. The piece is inscribed — that is the moment it starts existing.
  3. Its inscription number and origin are assigned by the service that indexes the chain, which takes a little while longer.

How to know it worked

Your balance goes down and the piece appears in your wallet — possibly incomplete for a few minutes, while step 3 catches up.

If it does not appear, do not mint again. Minting again buys a second piece. Read I minted and I don't see the piece instead: it takes less time than the mistake.

If the drop closes before you mint

A drop has a window. When it passes, whatever was not minted is given away as an airdrop and the drop leaves the active list — so a drop can end without selling out, and the pieces are not left unsold.
