There is no sign-up form. You create or import a wallet and that is your account — the same button handles both cases: if Zoide recognises the wallet you bring you are signed in, and if it does not, the account is created.
That button is this one, in the header of every page:
What you need
Nothing, if you are creating one. A seed phrase, an export or your keys if you are bringing one from elsewhere — see Wallet formats Zoide can import for the six sources.
If you are bringing one, the first thing the form tells you is where you are typing it:
About keys security
This website doesn't store your private keys. They are encrypted and stored in your browser.Then you choose a password
It does not go anywhere: it is what your wallet is encrypted with in this browser, and what encrypts the backup file you export. This is the step:
Protect your wallet
Set a password to encrypt your keys locally.Type it twice; the form tells you as you go whether the two match. And make it several words rather than one: the reason is at the bottom of this page.
What happens
- You create or import the wallet. Your two keys — one for payments, one for your pieces — are derived in your browser.
- You choose a password, and the keys are encrypted with it and stored in this browser.
- Zoide checks whether that wallet already has an account. Recognised → signed in. Not recognised → account created.
At no point do your private keys leave your browser. That is why nobody at Zoide can move your pieces, and also why nobody can recover your wallet for you.
If the account is new: a username and an email
A wallet Zoide has not seen before asks for two things, once:
- A username: 4 to 15 letters and numbers. It cannot resemble a Zoide name or suggest you speak for the platform; if the one you want is refused for that reason, pick another.
- An email, which has to be unique. It is how you are reached about your account; it is never shown on your profile.
A wallet Zoide already knows skips both and signs you in. You are not asked again, and anything you send is ignored — the wallet is the identity, not the form.
How to know it worked
The menu entries that were grey turn normal, and your wallet page opens. If they are amber instead, the wallet is in this browser but the session is not unlocked — that is a password away, not an import away.
Before you put value in it
Do these two things now, not later. They take a minute and they are the difference between an inconvenience and a loss:
- Export your wallet and keep the file somewhere that is not this browser.
- Write down the password. The export is encrypted with it, so the file on its own is not enough.
Nobody at Zoide can recover your wallet. Not as a policy — as a consequence of the keys never reaching our servers. Anybody who offers to recover it is trying to take what is left.
Optional: unlock with biometrics
If your device supports it you can unlock with a fingerprint or face instead of typing the password. It needs the site to be served over HTTPS, and it is an unlock, not a backup.
The password still matters, and not as a formality: anybody who ends up with your encrypted wallet or your backup file can try passwords against it at their own pace, and biometrics do not stand in their way. Use several words rather than one.
