A piece shows up blank

The file lives on the chain and your browser fetches it from a gateway. Four reasons it can come up empty, and none of them means the piece is gone.

The image, video or 3D model of a piece is not on our servers: it is inscribed on the chain, and your browser fetches it from the blockchain's content gateway. So a blank frame is almost always about that fetch, not about the piece.

This is what the frame looks like when the fetch works — that box is the piece, not our page:

A piece rendered in its frame, which is what should be there

The four reasons

1 · The gateway is slow or busy. The most common one. Reload; if a whole page of pieces is blank, it is not your piece, it is the gateway.

2 · It is a heavy 3D model. Several megabytes have to arrive before anything can be drawn. Give it a few seconds on a slow connection.

3 · It is an Inception Rabbit that has not been revealed. Those pieces show a shell on purpose until their content is revealed. Nothing is broken and nothing is missing — that is the piece doing what it was made to do.

4 · Your browser is blocking it. Pieces that are HTML documents are served sandboxed, which is what stops a piece from reaching your wallet or your session. Some privacy extensions block sandboxed frames wholesale. If everything else on the site works and only piece content is blank, that is what it is.

Do not turn off your extensions to look at a piece. Check the inscription in a blockchain explorer instead, which shows you the content without running it on the page that holds your wallet. If you want to see it here, add an exception for zoide.io rather than disabling the extension.

And while we are on the subject: the sandbox stops a piece from reaching your wallet, but a piece can still draw whatever it likes inside its own frame. Zoide never asks for your password from inside a piece's content — if a prompt appears within the artwork, close it.

What it is never

It is never the piece being deleted. Once something is inscribed it is on a public, permanent chain: it cannot be removed by us, by the creator or by anybody else.

How to check for yourself

Look the piece up in a blockchain explorer with its origin. If the explorer shows the content, the inscription is intact and what failed was the fetch on this page.
