The chat, and what the platform announces in it

One global room, the three moderation rules that surprise people, and why announcements are rare on purpose. What is never announced, and why that matters.

Zoide has one chat: a single global room, in a floating window at the corner of the page. No rooms, no private messages. It is only there if you are signed in.

The chat window, with a message, a reply and an announcement. A copy of the real one.

What it can do

  • Reply by quoting a specific message, as you would in a messaging app. If the original has since been pruned, the quote says so instead of breaking.
  • Mention somebody with @ and a picker of usernames. A valid mention notifies them in their bell; mentioning yourself does not.
  • Emoji, with categories, search and your recents. They render with a bundled colour font, so a recent emoji does not come out as an empty square on your machine.
  • A divider marking where you left off, per device.
  • Your own messages show sent and then delivered, and never appear twice.

Three moderation rules worth knowing before you type

Swearing is masked, not blocked. The message goes through with the word replaced by asterisks. You are not stopped; you are just not amplified.

Only Latin script. A message with Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters is rejected with an explanation, not sent stripped or silently altered. It is one general room rather than one per language, and a message nobody in it can read is not a conversation. The rest of Zoide is in seven languages — Your settings — the chat is the exception.

No external links. A link to another domain is rejected. Links to Zoide itself are fine, and a link to a piece shows a large card with the piece's actual content below your message — the piece, not a thumbnail. When that card appears, the URL comes out of your text: the card is the link.

A piece linked in the chat. The whole card is the link

There is also a rate limit, so a burst of messages will be refused for a moment.

History does not last forever

Messages are kept for a configured number of days and then pruned automatically. The chat is not a record. If something matters, it does not belong only there.

Announcements: rare on purpose

Zoide Market posts announcements in the same room. There are few of them, and that is the feature rather than a limitation.

The reasoning is arithmetic: the chat accumulates a handful of human messages while the platform generates dozens of events a day. Pouring events into it would turn the room into a log, and everybody would learn to ignore it.

So only the exceptional is announced:

Announcement When
A drop goes live Its minting window has just opened
A drop sells out The last piece is taken
An auction is won After the winner is settled
A record sale A sale beats the platform's previous highest
A collection is approved With its cover, as a card
A new creator Somebody's first collection is approved — that gets its own welcome

Each fact is announced once, whatever caused it, and there is a ceiling per hour. A drop marked as silent is not announced at all: that switch already means do not publicise this.

Announcements are translated to the language of whoever is reading rather than posted in one language, which is why they are stored as a key with parameters and not as text.

What is never announced

Logins, payments, cash-outs, subscriptions, new addresses, background jobs, errors, image generation — and any offer marked as hidden.

That last one is the one to notice: hiding an offer is a paid feature, and announcing it would defeat what you paid for.

Purchases, bids and sales are not announced either, but for the opposite reason: they are already public on the sales history and on the auction page, so announcing them would add noise without revealing anything new.

Achievements are also excluded, deliberately: they lock and unlock as pieces move, and a wallet resync would set off a storm of announcements for things that never changed.

Use that list the other way round. Since the platform never announces anything about your money, your subscription or your access, a chat message about any of those is not from the platform, whoever it appears to be signed by. And because external links are rejected, somebody trying to send you somewhere will spell a domain out in words instead — which is exactly the moment to stop reading.

There are no private messages here: one public room, and nothing else.
